Melissa
Simpson has worked in the leather
industry for over fifteen years covering all aspects of the handbag
and accessories trade ranging from samplemaking, patternmaking,
benchwork and machining gaining a very high level of expertise.
Prior
to working, she studied Manufacture and production of Leathergoods
at Cordwainers College, London from 1987 to 1989.
From
1989 to 1999 Melissa worked with 3 different companies, her last
job being seven years making handbags, after which Melissa set up
her own business offering her services as a leatherworker. A
varied range of work has since been undertaken from making handbags
for fashion designers to making gaiter car components and visor
leather helmets for vintage car companies
Melissa
launched her own collection of handbags and accessories at the East
London Design show in December 2002 and received a good deal of
interest from the public.
Summer
2003 at the East London Design Show, Melissa won the best product
award for her unique bags combined with skillful craftsmanship.
And
is quickly becoming renowned for the extremely high quality craftsmanship
combined with strong contemporary classic designs.
October
2003, Melissa exhibited at Chelsea Crafts Fair.
